Fatih Akdağ
I am a software developer living in Texas since October 2004. I received my B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from Bilkent University,
Turkey in 2004 and M.S. degree from University of Houston Computer Science department in 2010 under supervision of Dr. Christoph F. Eick in UH Data Mining Research Group. I am currently pursuing my PhD degree in the same department. I work for Brighten Technology Solutions, LLC as a senior mobile application developer & programmer. I develop mobile applications for all device types (iOS, Android, Phonegap platforms). I also develop database driven web applications using ASP.NET/C#/MSSQL and CakePHP/MySQL platforms. Polygon-based Methodology for Mining Related Spatial Datasets, in Proc. ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Data Mining for
Geoinformatics (DMG), San Jose, California, November 2010.
Thesis Title:
Algorithms for Creating Polygon Models for Spatial Clusters
Projects:
- I-SWEEEP:
International Sustainable World (Energy-Engineering-Environment) Project Olympiads is a groundbreaking science fair open to middle school students from US and high school students from all over the world. It is the largest science fair event of its kind world-wide. I develop the online registration application (more than 100 dynamic asp.net pages) in a different domain. Application includes project registration (project/contestant/supervisor/travel details), judge & volunteer registration, and different interfaces for organizers, project reviewers, judging administrators, parents and project supervisors. Developed using ASP.NET/C#. I-SWEEEP Registrations start page links to the application.
-
Cosmos Foundation HR web application:
Human Resources management web application for Cosmos Foundation using CakePhp and MySQL. This was my first Php/MySQL application and I liked CakePhp MVC framework more than ASP.NET web forms framework.
- Polygon model generator for 2D Spatial Clusters:Clusters two-dimensional spatial datasets and
generates a representative polygon model for each cluster. Developed for master’s thesis using Java.
- Gozdelink:
A social news website in Turkish. Developed using MS SQL Server 2005 and ASP.NET 2/C#. Custom ajax scripts were written for a responsive UI. Still waiting for more features.
- Text search engine: A document search engine which creates an inverted index for thousands of documents in seconds using Apache Hadoop Map/Reduce framework on a parallel file system.
- Special Education Administration Website: Developed for Cosmos Foundation Special Education Department.
Administrators in more than 30 schools manage the special education from this website.
- Testing Engine:
Online testing application. Anyone can prepare custom tests, assign to students
and view the results/statistics. My first ASP. NET web application using Visual Web Developer (2005).
- Text2Speech:
A C# .NET 2.0 Windows application written for visually impaired people, mute people and too busy or lazy
people who prefers listening to reading. Can convert MS Office documents, web pages, most PDF documents and scanned documents to text and speak
it (using MS text-to-speech engine). Can be controlled by voice.
- ESL Helper: A desktop application which uses web scraping and Google translation service to
translate text between many languages, spell check documents, speak the given English text and many more.
- RSS Reader: An RSS reader developed for Software Design class in UH in Fall 2008.
Games:
- Same game: JavaScript version of the popular samegame. Bring the same colors together, destroy and gain points. I wrote this to learn JavaScript in 2006.
- Sliding Puzzle: Rearrange the mixed numbers moving one at a time.
- Marble Escape: A puzzle game for iPhone. Will be available in AppStore soon.
